The Importance of Interactivity!
Interactivity is the way in which a magazine allows interaction between the
magazine itself, the fans and the artists are being featured inside the
magazine. Interactivity is very important for magazines and it has become much
more vital to the process over the last few years.
Magazines have
developed further into interactivity due to each having their own website
published for the readers to view online. By having a website this offers a
high extent of technology which can allow the magazine to share their
information on the internet and this will also increase interactivity between
the magazine and the readers. The technology being used today cooperates well
to the development of interactivity such as being able to stream videos of
interviews with artists or videos of gigs. Users can also download links to
music, comment on sections where readers can talk to each other and allowing
readers to submit their own review easily by having a review page on the website
of the magazine.
Social media websites
are another way in which magazines interact with the readers. Each magazine
will have a link to different social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter
and Instagram. These are websites that can give magazines the opportunity to
interact with different readers due to fact readers who can instantly reply to
the magazines. These websites can allow their fans to post gig photos and
videos that they have took or recorded and post them instantly through the social
media websites and they can tag the magazines name in the post them to allow
any fans that search the magazine to see these posts too.
Social media is an
excellent way to allow the readers of the magazine to express their own
opinion about the magazine. For example, the editor of Kerrang! James McMahon
tweeted asking the fans of the magazine about who they would like to see on the
front cover of the new music special magazine. As well as this he also
invited demos from new bands and applications from aspiring writers. This is a
great example of how the music magazines allow their readers to keep their
audience engaged in the magazine and it also illustrated how interactive the
magazine and the readers are and this makes the readers think that they are
involved in the decision making of the magazine.
